Brandhorst Museum opens in Munich on 21 May

LONDON. Munich’s Brandhorst Museum (The Art Newspaper, February 2009, p16), housing the modern and contemporary collection of Udo and Anette Brandhorst, will finally open on 21 May after nearly ten years in the planning.

The 12,100 sq. m building was designed by Berlin-based architects Sauerbruch Hutton and cost €46m. The Brandhorst collection comprises more than 700 works, including a substantial group of Cy Twombly paintings, sculptures and drawings.

It also includes works by Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Damien Hirst and Gerhard Richter, among many others. The museum is directed by Armin Zweite, previously head of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf.

Born and raised in St. Louis to William Brandhorst. My parents divorced at age 5yrs old. I lost contact with my father and have always been interest in my birth background. When i found this info on the internet I wanted to see what the museum was about. Now at the age of 82 my interest is still there. Thank you
