Deutsche Bank sponsors Frieze—for one year

LONDON. Germany’s Deutsche Bank, which has sponsored London’s Frieze Art Fair since its second edition in 2004, has renewed its contract for one more year. The bank had previously sponsored Frieze on a three-year basis, but declined to comment on whether the decision to shorten its contract was related to the economic environment. UBS, the bank that sponsors Art Basel, has said it will continue its support for the Swiss fair despite $37bn losses. But BMW, which has been an Art Basel partner for six years, has ended its collaboration. Meanwhile, Lehman Brothers, which has made heavy losses and suspended two of its derivatives dealers, has bucked the trend and said it is to sponsor Hong Kong’s inaugural Art HK 08 contemporary fair (14-18 May).
