Frieze reveals exhibitors for New York fair

New York and international galleries will set up in a tent on Randall's Island

new york. Major Manhattan dealers are showing their support for the inaugural edition of the Frieze New York fair, which is due to take place in May 2012 on Randall's Island. Thirty-two local galleries, including Marian Goodman Gallery, David Zwirner, Cheim & Read, 303 Gallery and the Marianne Boesky Gallery, will take part in the main section of the fair. Nonetheless, some heavyweight names are noticeably absent, including Barbara Gladstone, Gagosian, Luhring Augustine and Pace galleries.

A new section, “Focus”, is dedicated to galleries that have opened since 2001. Among the participating galleries are seven from New York, including James Fuentes and Alexander Gray Associates.

The independent curator Cecilia Alemani will lead the Frieze Projects and Frieze Talks. Together with the curator Rodrigo Moura, she advised on the selection of galleries in the “Frame” section, which will comprise 20 solo presentations.

The US fair will coincide with New York's contemporary auction week, and takes place from 4 to 7 May in Randall's Island Park. Like its London edition, it will be housed in a tent. The structure is being designed by the Brooklyn-based architects SO-IL, a firm founded by the former Sanaa architects Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu. _ The complete list of exhibitors is below.

Frieze Art Fair will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2012, and Frieze Masters will launch in October to coincide with the fair's London edition. Taking place in a temporary structure designed by the architect Annabelle Selldorf, it will focus on art made before 2000, from antiquities to 20th-century fine art.
