Gavin Brown’s enterprise (B11) wins Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize

LONDON. Gavin Brown’s enterprise (B11) has won the Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize, sponsored by Champagne Pommery, this year.

The New York gallery is well-known for its ambitious displays of works, and notably staged a flea market by artist Rob Pruitt at Frieze in 2006.

“It’s certainly better than a poke in the eye,” said Brown of the £10,000 prize, joking: “The Milky Bars are on me!”

The gallery’s booth features works by artists including Turner prize winner Martin Creed, Elizabeth Peyton, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Joe Bradley, as well as the gallery’s latest signing, octogenarian painter Alex Katz. According to a statement from the fair, “the judges agreed that the stand articulated a long-term commitment to and understanding of the artists represented.”

The Art Newspaper understands that Gallery Meyer Kainer (G10) was also a contender. The Viennese gallery’s eye-catching booth was designed by artist Will Benedict.
