London/Berlin/New York gallery Haunch of Venison, established by dealers Harry Blain and Graham Southern in 2002, has announced that its founders are leaving the company at the end of August “to pursue new projects”. The commercial gallery was bought by Christie’s auction house in 2007.

“Haunch of Venison will remain under the directorship of Emilio Steinberger and Barrett White, based in New York, with Matthew Carey-Williams returning to the gallery as Director, based in London,” the gallery said in a statement. Carey-William, who joined the gallery from Gagosian in 2006 and was previously vice president of contemporary art at Sotheby’s, was appointed European director of private sales at Christie’s in 2009.

The gallery says it intends to “further develop its exhibition programme under the continued leadership of Ben Tufnell, Director of Exhibitions, and the existing curatorial team.” The gallery also plans to relocate next year from its temporary space at 6 Burlington Gardens, which it rents from the Royal Academy, to its original home in Haunch of Venison Yard, which is undergoing renovation.
