Lacma hires new consulting curator of African art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma) has hired Mary Nooter Roberts as its consulting curator of African art. She will help establish a new African art gallery and programming. Roberts is a professor of world arts and cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and will continue her full-time work at the school while consulting for Lacma. She was the chief curator of the Fowler Museum at UCLA from 1999 to 2008. In 2008, she guest curated “Tradition as Innovation in African Art” at Lacma.
