ART-ATHINA still going strong after 19 years

On the 21st of December you published an article about the cancellation of the Athens World Fine Art Fair titled “Athens art fair cancelled”. Unfortunately, this caused a misunderstanding regarding the realisation of ART-ATHINA 2011, which is going to take place on 12-15 May as scheduled. ART-ATHINA: International Contemporary Art Fair of Athens is the only art fair that has been organised in Greece for the past 19 consecutive years.
Furthermore, ART-ATHINA 2010 had excellent sales despite the economic crisis and we believe that this will happen in 2011 as well, a thought that the Greek and international galleries are sharing with us, proven by the fact that we are going to have as many exhibitors as we had last year. It seems that Greeks choose to invest in art. We don’t know what the specific reasons for the cancellation of the World Fine Art Fair were, but the fact that a new organisation did not manage to make a breakthrough is not indicative of the situation of the contemporary art market in Greece, which is our field.
Thank you in advance for letting us share these thoughts with your readers.
With kind regards,
—Alexandros J. Stanas, General Director
