guadalajara. As work finally begins on the delayed Herzog and de Meuron-designed Miami Art Museum, workers in Mexico will break ground next month for another new museum designed by the in-demand Swiss architects. The $35m Museo Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo Guadalajara is due to open in 2013. The museum’s curatorial advisers include Patrick Charpenel, the curator of Art Basel Miami Beach’s Art Public, who is based in the northern Mexican city. Unlike the abandoned plans for a Guggenheim Guadalajara, Charpenel says the city’s modern and contemporary art museum will be “100% Mexican” owned and run.
