New York design fair gets name and new location

The event organised by architect Steven Learner will take place in May on Pier 57

“Collective” is the name of the new design fair launching in Manhattan this May. The event will debut at Pier 57 on the Westside Highway at 15th Street (8-11 May) in a 70,000 sq. ft space created by the architecture and interior design studio, Steven Learner Studio.

Learner is the founder and creative director of the fair whose first edition, Collective .1, will feature more than 25 international galleries, as well as special programmes and institutional displays.

The venture is scheduled to coincide with the second edition of Frieze New York (10-13 May) and the annual May auctions. Learner has previously worked with clients in the art world, including the galleries Blain DiDonna and Sean Kelly, and hopes Collective will attract interest from both the art and design communities

“As an architect and collector, I’ve visited the greatest design fairs in the world and realised that we need an event of this caliber in New York,” says Learner. “The name Collective tells the story: a passionate group of architects and designers, patrons and gallerists, uniting to create an international platform for the very best of vintage and contemporary design.”
