Jack Persekian, the former director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, has organised a biennial-style initiative due to launch across towns in Palestine next month. Qalandiya International (1-15 November) will take place in seven partner institutions. Events include a retrospective dedicated to the late Palestinian artist Mustafa Al Hallaj, scheduled to open at the Al Hoash in Jerusalem, while the show “Gestures in Time”, which features pieces by regional and international artists, is spread across six sites. “[Qalandiya International] came out of a need to give a platform to the immense creativity of Palestinian practitioners, as well as highlight the significance of their work within the international field. This is a multidisciplinary platform—local, regional and international,” Persekian says.
