Sculptures for National Gallery of Art

NEW YORK. The National Gallery of Art is to receive a major collection of Renaissance sculptures as a gift from the former president of the board of trustees, the real estate developer Robert Smith. The collection includes works by Willem van Tetrode (right, Theseus Slaying the Centaur Bienor, 1573), Hubert Gerhard, Johann Gregor van der Schardt, and other Northern European artists. Mr Smith is also donating drawings by Boucher, Canaletto, Gainsborough, Tiepolo and Picasso, among others. l.j.
