London. Danilo Eccher, who was appointed head of the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery in Turin in February, has revealed his plans for the reorganisation of the museum’s collection. From next month, the permanent holdings will be re-hung according to “thematic groupings”, says Eccher. “We will not base this on the thematic displays of Tate Modern in London but our project is more extensive. We have asked four Italian universities—Trento, Bologna, Rome and Turin—to devise themes.” A new first-floor gallery will also be devoted to historic modern art shows, with the first exhibition in the space focusing on performance art since the 1960s (“The Theatre of Performance”, 24 October-24 January 2010). An adjacent Wunderkammer (“cabinet of curiosities”) will open with a display of works on paper while another new area, the GAM Underground Project, described as a “space dedicated to the expression and study of contemporary art, through a cycle of solo and group exhibitions”, launches with a show of work by UK artist Ian Kiaer (23 October-24 January 2010).
