BEIJING. Universal Studios, a major Beijing gallery established by Pi Li and Waling Boers in 2005, is changing its name at the end of this month to the Boers-Li Gallery, following a complaint from the Hollywood film studio of the same name. “We can only use the Universal Studios name until June, then we will change to the Boers-Li Gallery. They also said that they want to buy our website, but we do not want to sell,” Mr Li told The Art Newspaper. Founded
as a not-for-profit gallery, Universal Studios is now a commercial space in an old industrial building in Caochangdi. Many international galleries have recently established themselves in this new “East End” art district in Beijing. C.G.
