Venice fund photo sold to European museum

Other works from the “Real Venice” series are on view at Somerset House
Pierre Gonnord, "Nicola", 2011

LONDON. Art lovers taken with Pierre Gonnord’s photograph Nicola, 2011, at Galeria Juana de Aizpura (G9) should head to Somerset House, where the work is on show as part of the selling exhibition “Real Venice” (until 19 November).

The artist was one of 14, including Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Candida Höfer, invited to take portraits of Venice earlier this year. Each artist has donated seven different works, which are being sold to raise funds for Venice in Peril. The fund, which was established after the great flood in 1966 when the city's waters rose almost two metres above the mean level, has since raised millions of pounds for the restoration of Venetian monuments, buildings and works of art.

An edition of Gonnord’s work sold to a European museum at the fair this week for €14,000. Those hoping to follow suit should enquire at Somerset House. There will also be an auction of selected works on 3 November at Phillips de Pury & Company, London.
