This database includes temporary
exhibitions selected by The Art Newspaper (permanent collections are
not listed). Previews are taken from The Art Newspaper's monthly guide,
What's On. |
How to use this guide This database contains all the information on temporary exhibitions held by The Art Newspaper. Selected exhibitions are previewed by our writers. Selections are based on editorial criteria only - we do not take payment for listings. Previews are published monthly in the printed paper and added to this databse.
How to search The search is a free textual search, case insensitive. Type in words or exact phrases enclosed by double quote mark (e.g. "exact phrase"). These will be matched against all the information held (preview text, location, gallery etc).
Only whole words are matched.
Exhibitions are shown if the date you select is within their run, but they may not be open on that particular day. Please visit the gallery's site or call for visiting information.
If more than 200 exhibition are found you'll need to narrow your search. You can do this by adding words or by ticking the "exclude commercial galleries" box on the result page.
Examples:
"contemporary sculpture" will find these words wherever they appear together in this order. This can be in the title of the exhibition, the preview text or the gallery's name.
contemporary vienna will find all exhibitions where both words appear anywhere. It will return contemporary exhibitions in Vienna but also exhibitions in elsewhere containing the sentence "Vienna-based contemporary artist..."
You can limit your search to one city by using the drop-down menu.
Monet "National Gallery" will match all exhibitions where the phrase "National Gallery" and the word "Monet" appear anywhere, including "... a Monet on loan from the National Gallery..."
