Andy Warhol fails to make a post-mortem appearance at the New Museum of Contemporary Art's newest exhibition

“The Interrupted Life” explores themes of mortality in contemporary art

Hopes were raised that Andy Warhol might have interrupted his death to make a brief, fifteen-minute appearance at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York on 12 September, when an exhibition exploring themes of mortality in contemporary art opened. The exhibition, which is titled “The Interrupted Life”, continues to 29 December and presents work by more than forty artists including Bruce Nauman, Christian Boltanski, Nayland Blake and Warhol himself. Preview guests waited in suspense around a project by artist John Lekay incorporating a cryonic tank in which, it was rumoured, Andy was signing catalogues. But although there was disappointment that he failed to defrost himself in time for the party, it was generally agreed that the silver-wigged master would, in fact, have had as little to say in death as he did in his life.
