Sponsorship policy

Occasionally The Art Newspaper publishes a range of special branded content that is funded—fully or in part—by third parties. On 18 August 2023 we introduced updated terminology to describe how the different types of branded content we produce are devised, commissioned, paid for and presented. All the content will be clearly badged as follows:

Sponsored by

• Content produced exclusively by the editorial team (or freelancers commissioned by its editors/an approved editor) supported by funding from third parties where there is an alignment of brand values
• Third-party may suggest content ideas, but the editorial team is not obliged to accept them and final editorial approval rests with The Art Newspaper
• Product may contain a “message from the sponsor”, which is clearly signposted as such and is written by the third party, in conformity with editorial standards
• Writer’s byline should include the journalist’s name and the sponsor where applicable

Media partnership

The Art Newspaper’s editorial team generates content for a third-party in exchange for exclusive access, marketing of the content and brand exposure
• The content is editorially driven with no input from the third-party
• Third-party may provide additional support through paid advertising or press trips for journalists covering the event

In partnership with

The Art Newspaper’s editorial team generates content ideas in line with a third party’s brief
• Partnership is embarked upon where there is an alignment of brand values
• Content is produced by the editorial team (or freelancers commissioned by its editors/an approved editor) in collaboration with the client
• Third-party provides additional support to the publisher in the form of marketing the content
• Third-party has final approval, unless otherwise agreed for practical reasons

Advertisement feature / advertorial / commercial partnership

• Content that is supplied or generated by a client or third party rather than the publisher. Subject to regulation by the ASA, FTC in the US etc
The Art Newspaper’s editorial team checks for egregious errors or legal issues but does not write or edit any of the content
• Different look and feel to regular editorial content
