Tate Modern presents Muñoz's 'Double-bind' as second in Unilever series

An installation in disguise

The second in the five-year series of Unilever-sponsored art works at Tate Modern was unveiled last month. Spanish artist, Juan Muñoz, has created a work which many visitors will be unable to distinguish from the fabric of the Tate Modern museum itself (until April 2002). Muñoz’s installation is split into two parts, the upper one with a vista of a patterned floor with a couple of elevators rising and falling. The lower level is peopled with sculpted figures, grey inhabitants of a metropolis who seem to be plotting, teetering or carrying loads.
