Cornelia H. Butler is MoMA’s new chief curator of drawings, replacing Gary Garrels who left in May to become senior curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Ms Butler comes from LA MOCA where she has been a curator since 1996. Her MOCA exhibitions include “Willem de Kooning: tracing the figure” (2002) and “The power of suggestion: narrative and notation in contemporary drawing” (1996). She is working on shows of work by Marlene Dumas and Dan Graham as well as an international survey of 1970s feminist art which opens at MOCA in 2007.
