A new private museum opened in Duisburg on 22 January. The Museum DKM in the western part of the Ruhr area will show works from the collection of entrepreneurs Dirk Krämer and Klaus Maas. In 1999, they formed the DKM Foundation and showed works in the converted garage of a beverage store, creating a showcase for contemporary art. The new museum—a former industrial space and its extension next to the main station of the Rhein harbour town—has 2,600 sq. metres of exhibition space. The collection comprises more than 1,000 works, including contemporary art, 19th-century photography, screens of the Japanese Edo Period and Buddhist sculptures.
