The troubled conservation organisation National Trust Scotland (NTS), which recently closed three properties (including Hill of Tarvit near St Andrews) as part of a cost-cutting exercise (July/August 2009, p4), faces further problems this month at its annual general meeting. Over 20 members have filed a resolution stating “they question whether the current post-holders within the Trust are generally or severally the right persons to carry forward the affairs of the Trust from this low point. Additionally [they are] concerned whether…ordinary and national standards of conservation can be maintained by what has once been, and should still be ‘Scotland’s leading conservation body’.” An NTS spokeswoman said that the “motion will be fully debated, discussed and voted upon at that meeting”.
