London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) was scheduled to open its new £30m Medieval and Renaissance Galleries on 2 December. The ten galleries over three floors, designed by London-based architects Muma, house an 1,800-strong collection of treasures, including a 12th-century reliquary casket of St Thomas Becket (pictured right), Gothic altarpieces and Renaissance sculpture by Italian masters such as Donatello and Giambologna. See p29 for our feature on how the new galleries illuminate Christian art for a secular 21st century audience.
