Young collectors collaborate for MoCA

The Director’s Council comprises 25 to 30 names from the fashion, entertainment and finance industries.

Two years after a slew of high-profile board defections threatened the institution’s future, a resurgent Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA), Los Angeles, is launching a committee for young collectors. The Director’s Council includes 25 to 30 names from the fashion, entertainment and finance industries. The group came together swiftly after the March arrival of the museum’s director Philippe Vergne, who last month was named a Chevalier of France’s Légion d’honneur for his services to the arts. The council is expected to collaboratively purchase a handful of works through studio visits and exhibitions each year to help grow the museum’s collection of work by emerging and mid-career artists. “I’d like future generations who go to MoCA to look back on what is happening now and know that we were paying attention,” says the art lawyer Joshua Roth, who is leading the council.
