Venice is the most cultivated and genteel of cities, so visitors to La Serenissima are often surprised to see graffiti daubed on historic buildings across the city. During the Biennale, however, graffiti goes legit with an exhibition dedicated to ten street artists such as Futura, Doze Green, and Eron who will create site-specific works on the walls of the San Basilio cruise ship terminal (“The Bridges of Graffiti” at Arteterminal, 9 May-22 November). The waterfront space will also house a cafeteria and library designed by the graffiti trailblazer Boris Tellegen. Crucially, this edgy street art show is, for once, on the right side of the law, as it has the backing of the veteran organisation Venice Port Authority.
