Artist races ahead with Tour de Yorkshire piece

The paper cut artist Anita Bowerman made waves last year with her metre-high map showing the Grand Départ for the Tour de France, marking the momentous sporting event when riders sped through the country lanes of the Yorkshire Dales. Bowerman is back with another design, this time for the much anticipated, inaugural Tour de Yorkshire three-day cycle race which begins 1 May in Bridlington and finishes in Scarborough. Her exquisite piece features 12 cyclists racing around a bike wheel (Stainless Steel Wheel). “It has been designed using just a pencil and compass and then hand cut from one piece of paper using just a tiny scalpel,” says a project spokesman. Bowerman is the official artist for the annual international race which will take a new route through Yorkshire each year.
