There are pooches everywhere this year at the Venice Biennale, providing a welcome canine presence to the weighty art proceedings. At Casa Tre Oci, there's a multitude of mutts, both real and aesthetic, in a show featuring works by the US artist Mark Dion and the Russian Arseny Zhilyaev (Future Histories, until 23 August). Dion has his doe-eyed whippet in tow called Hera (the sweetest studio dog) while Zhilyaev's installation, The Cradle of Humankind, incorporates a painting of Laika, the first dog in space. But the cutest dog belongs to Joan Jonas—the US representative this year—seen here carefully considering his arty counterpart by Sarah Lucas in the British pavilion.
