Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing, owned by China Minsheng Banking Corporation, is due to open in mid-June with the show The Civil Power, featuring works partly sel ected by online voting. A museum spokeswoman says: “We hope to access works that reflect current Chinese society’s thoughts and feelings, concerns and accountability.” Of the 8,539 submissions, 78% were from artists born after 1980. Zhu Pei designed the museum in Universal Creative Park, adjacent to Beijing’s 798 Art District. The museum cost around Rmb 200m ($32m) and has 8,000 sq. m of exhibition area. A soft opening was held in April with Ink, an exhibition juxtaposing classical and contemporary Chinese ink art. The private bank also runs Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai, and 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum, also in Shanghai.
