The British Museum is to send four exhibitions to Spain, to be displayed in venues run by the foundation of the bank La Caixa in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Madrid, Palma, Seville, Tarragona and Zaragoza. It will be the most ambitious touring exhibition series to a single country ever mounted by the museum. The foundation will pay around €2m to borrow around 700 objects. The first show, Medieval Europe: Power and Legacy, is due to open in Madrid in October 2016 before travelling to other venues in 2017. It will be followed by Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes (2017-19), Pharaohs: Kings of Egypt (2018-20) and an exhibition on the Phoenicians (2019-20).
