Judd archive on move to Marfa as catalogue project progresses

The Judd Foundation is working to digitise Donald Judd’s archive, which is in the process of being moved from New York to Marfa, Texas, where the artist founded the Chinati Foundation in 1986.

The archive has so far been the main resource for a catalogue raisonné being compiled by the Judd Foundation. With the appointment in September of former studio assistant Ellie Meyer as the catalogue raisonné research manager, the project is moving into a more public phase, focusing on collectors, galleries and institutions.

Working for Judd was “not dull”, Meyer says. “There were lots of discussions about philosophy, politics and art happening,” she says. “It’s not like the artist is isolated—Judd had a family and a life. I was lucky enough to be part of that, and to be included in the making of his art.”
