More than 800 items from the personal collection of the Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will be auctioned on 4 and 5 December at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California. The star lot is a three-piece Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit used by Starr at more than 200 performances between 1963 and 1964, and which can be heard on the studio recordings of such Beatles hits as Can’t Buy Me Love, She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand and Money (That’s What I Want). Other lots include John Lennon’s 1964 Rose-Morris Rickenbacker guitar and a Mercedes car once owned by George Harrison, but later sold to Starr. The auction, Property from the Collection of Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, will benefit the couple’s charity, The Lotus Foundation. The sale is expected to realise between $5m and $10m.
