Grayson feels the heat but forgets his parasol

Grayson Perry’s comments about Australian Aboriginal art got him into hot water when he told the Sydney Morning Herald: “When I see those indigenous paintings crop up in contemporary art shows, I go, ‘Are they contemporary artists?’” But the Turner Prize-winning artist has now backtracked. “I was a bit clumsy,” he recently told the same newspaper. “I wasn’t very well-informed. I’ve since read up about it more. I regret what I said, especially if it annoyed or upset anyone.” The Herald also reveals that Perry suffered in the Australian heat (a show of his work is at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney, until 1 May). The transvestite potter “does not have a very good summer wardrobe and all his ‘really bonkers outfits’ are too hot”, the newspaper quips.
