Forget Shoreditch: it’s all about Wood Green

A new kind of hotel, aimed specifically at arty types, is launching in north London next month. Green Rooms, in Wood Green, will house artists who are visiting and working in the capital for organisations such as Somerset House, the British Council and the Royal Court Theatre. “All of these organisations will be housing artists at the hotel and using it for performances, exhibitions, screenings and rehearsals too,” a spokesman says. Prices for double rooms start at £45 a night, or from around £50 for members of the public (the non-profit venture is part-funded by the mayor of London’s office and Haringey Council). Nick Hartwright, the hotel’s founder, says: “We’re confident that artists, creatives, style enthusiasts and the wider community will love staying and working here.”
