Knoedler courthouse sketches on show

For those New Yorkers who weren’t able to attend the closely watched Knoedler trial in person, don’t fret. A pop-up exhibition of courtroom sketches (many of which were used to illustrate articles in The Art Newspaper) opens today at the World Trade Gallery in the Financial District, featuring the work of the two artists that covered the trial Elizabeth Williams and Victor Juhasz (22-27 February 2016). Highlights of the selling show include a rendering of the Italian businessman Domenico De Sole pointing to a fake black-and-red painting by Mark Rothko, as well as a depiction of Glafira Rosales, who sold Knoedler fake works of art, wedged between her defense team. Meanwhile, a side gallery will include images from other famous trials held in the same the courtroom, Room 318, including presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s antitrust lawsuit against the NFL, the trial of beauty queen turned city politician Bess Meyerson who was caught up in a bribery scandal, and the federal racketeering trial of mob boss Paul Castellano, just before he was killed by John Gotti.
