Moroccan fashion fills Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris atelier

The Moroccan fashion designer Noureddine Amir has been given carte blanche at the headquarters of the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent in Paris (until 3 April). More than 20 of Amir’s exquisite sculptural garments are dotted around the plush former private mansion for a special exhibition (incidentally, Rabat-born Amir is also known for collaborating with the Iranian artist Shirin Neshat). The Foundation building at 5 avenue Marceau will close for renovation and open next year as a new museum dedicated to the late designer’s work (fans of YSL will be able to wallow in the Foundation’s collection of 5,000 haute couture clothes at the new Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris). “Before closing these rooms to the public, I wanted to make them available to a Moroccan designer I discovered at the Institut du Monde Arabe [in Paris],” says Bergé, Saint-Laurent’s partner. The re-opening in Paris will also coincide with the launch of another major YSL institution, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech.
