Esteemed men's mag GQ has a new contributing arts editor—none other than U2's bass guitarist Adam Clayton who will give his insights and opinions in the British edition from next month. The media news agency Gorkana reports that "as U2’s first manager, Adam started collecting contemporary art with his first earnings. He has a varied collection with a current interest in post-war Japanese photography. His first column will appear in the May issue." Clayton expounded his passion for photography in The Independent in 2010, saying: "There are two types of collector, I think. There are those who are quite academic, and get into the archaeology of finding the earliest example of a particular idea. Then there are those interested in what's new. I'm in the latter category, probably as I have a great interest in popular culture." In the same article, Clayton says he started collecting photography in the early 1990s, buying works by Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus, and Man Ray. His friend, the supermodel Naomi Campbell, was very generous and gave him a photograph by Jacques Henri Lartigue.
