It's all about the Manet, Monet and Money at tonight's Arts Club Quiz

Think tonight’s grand final of University Challenge (BBC 2 at 8pm) is the pinnacle of brainbox quizzes? Think again. The Arts Club in London will host the great and good of the art world for its annual fundraising Art Quiz this evening, 18 April. But will the teams— formed by major galleries, arts patrons, journalists and auction houses—know their Manet from their Monet, while raising a whole load of money? This year’s non-profit beneficiary will be Gasworks in south London. The 22-year-old organisation provides much-needed subsidised studio spaces in the capital, hosts international residencies and commissions first major exhibitions of emerging artists.

Tonight’s quiz masters are the director of the ICA Gregor Muir and the deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s Europe Oliver Barker, who, as well as testing the crowd, will keep a close eye on any underhand tactics at this notoriously competitive showdown. Last year there were broken buzzers, accusations of cheating and all sorts of raucousness (including food throwing). To mitigate these, the masters of ceremony Alia Al-Senussi and Abdullah Al-Turki, will be dishing out £100 fines for rule infringements and have implemented a “naughty corner” for any moaning Lisas or screaming Edvards.
