Together again: Larry and Damien

After a four-year break, the bromance between Damien Hirst and Larry Gagosian is back on. The gallery is to dedicate its booth to classic works by the former YBA artist at Frieze New York next month (think pickled sharks, pills and butterflies), as well as hosting an exhibition in its Madison Avenue space. Hirst left the New York mega-dealer after 17 years working together in 2012 in what was described as an “amicable” split. But it seems that’s now water under the bridge. “He’s a great artist, and it’s exciting to reboot the relationship,” Gagosian told the New York Times. “It feels very fresh to me. I know a lot of collectors remain very, very interested in Damien and are extremely curious to see what he’s doing.” The renewed relationship is not exclusive, however. Hirst will continue to share the love with his London dealer Jay Jopling, the founder of White Cube who has represented Hirst since the early 1990s.
