On 15 June, before the Brexit vote sparked waves of uncertainty on the market and beyond, Bonhams sold 95 of the 114 lots at its Modern British auction, fetching a total of £6.8m (£8.3m with fees) against estimates of £5.5m-£8.2m. The highlights of the sale were the 41 works from the private collection of Cyril Reddihough, which all sold, including 25 works by Ben Nicholson as well as the evening’s top-selling lot, Reclining Figure (1945) by Henry Moore, which sold for £1.8m with fees (est £150,000-£200,000), a new record for a Moore plaster. The Reddihough collection alone brought in £4.1m (£4.9m with fees), proving just how important big estates and collections are to the market for Modern art.
