Tillmans gets techno on Mr Ocean’s latest visual album

The German photographer Wofgang Tillmans is getting through his post-Brexit blues by collaborating with an unlikely partner—the US rapper Frank Ocean. The New Orleans musician has just “dropped” his latest creation (or visual album), Endless, which features the Turner prizewinner’s track Device Control. But Tillmans explains on Instagram that the music project took him by surprise. “Enormously proud and happy that Frank Ocean did include my (yet unreleased) track Device Control as intro and as a full length ending of his Endless album! We were in touch about the intro, but I wouldn’t believe it until it happened,” Tillmans says. Three weeks ago, Wolfgang played him a few songs which he had written and produced, and Ocean replied: “Device Control is brilliant. Love. Can I sample it for the intro of my album?” Tillmans says that he agreed. “And to my excited surprise this morning, he didn't just sample it. He released my complete original track as the end of this amazing album.” Device Control also appears on Tillmans's own EP of the same name.
