Adopt an object to help Design Museum make its move

The Design Museum in London has launched an unusual campaign to help fund its relocation to Kensington. The museum is inviting visitors to sponsor one of 12 objects from its collection, including Christian Louboutin Pigalle shoes and an Apple iMac G3 computer, for £5 each. In return, donors receive a personalised film showing the object making its way across London to the new site (the iMac can be seen skateboarding down Kensington High Street while the Louboutins take the escalator on the Underground). As we went to press, 165 people had donated to the adopt an object initiative. The museum hopes the campaign will be compelling enough to raise £200,000 of the final £1m needed to fund its move. Its new home is due to open on 24 November.
