Nicholas Serota does not intend to spend all his time chairing Arts Council meetings when he leaves Tate, but wants to keep in close contact with art. He tells The Art Newspaper that he hopes to curate a show for Tate after he steps down next year. It will be on a living artist, but not, he says, a Young British Artist. Will the artist be from an earlier or later generation? He remains tight-lipped (it is too early for details). Meanwhile, we read from the job description for the new Tate director that the appointee will be expected to work 36 hours a week. Serota, who has hosted many thousands of breakfast and evening events, must be amused. Headhunters Liz Amos Associates now face the challenge of finding someone to step into his shoes.
