The Pasadena Museum of California Art is planning a corker of a show for next year’s Getty-led initiative, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. The exhibition, Hollywood in Havana: Five Decades of Cuban Posters Promoting U.S. Films (20 August 2017-7 January 2018), will include Cuban posters advertising Hollywood films, as well as promoting Cuban films about the U.S., dating from the 1960s to 2012. Film posters were redesigned in line with Communist ideals by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. So expect to see a very Cuban take on movies such as Singin’ in the Rain, Cabaret and Schindler’s List, using motifs associated with Art Nouveau and Pop art.
