If you’re wandering the aisles of New York's Armory Show (until 5 March) with a budget of $100, keep your eyes peeled for the New York gallery Albertz Benda’s booth. The Berlin-based conceptual artist Fiete Stolte’s installation Eye features a photo booth that snaps and instantly prints passport-sized images of the sitter’s eye, with his or her silhouette framed inside the pupil. “I wanted to stage the eye as a mirror to the world,” Stolte tells The Art Newspaper over email. “It's an everyday phenomenon people normally don’t pay attention to. Here, people have to take the time to focus on their eye, and in that moment the flash captures their reflection. It’s an action meant to be both physical and temporal.” Stolte is on hand to sign the work. Visitors can also opt to purchase a larger version of the image, printed later through the gallery, for $500 (6x7 inches) or $1,000 (12x14 inches)—still a steal by Armory standards.
