US-Saudi Arabia cultural exchanges grow

If the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture has its way, US audiences may soon be seeing a lot more Saudi Arabian art. In February, a delegation of 18 influential US museum directors, trustees and curators visited the cultural centre in Dhahran built by the energy company Aramco, which is due to open later this year. Participants in the trip included curators from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The visits aim to “create opportunities for direct peer-to-peer exchange between cultural leaders” and “provide direct insight...into cultural developments in Saudi Arabia”, says a spokeswoman from Aramco. More than 50 US cultural representatives are due to visit the centre this year.
