Solange has something to say to the art world

The performer let loose at a sold-out talk at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago this week

Solange Knowles is not known for holding her opinions to herself. And at a sold-out talk at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago this week, she had some choice (and deserved) words to say to the art industry. “The art world definitely has its own set of issues, and in my opinion there is a tonality in certain of the spaces and institutions that as a black artist you should just be happy to be here,” Solange said, according to Art News. “I’m not interested in that conversation.” The outspoken sister of Beyoncé has been dipping into the museum scene recently with events at New York’s Guggenheim Museum and London’s Tate Modern. She told her interviewerBritt Julious that Judd’s work was partly an inspiration for her most recent album, A Seat at the Table, and she has a performance coming up next month at Donald Judd’s Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas. But even that artistic refuge isn’t without it’s drawbacks, Solange revealed, hinting at “a really scary encounter with the police in Marfa, Texas, of all places”.
