Draw your own conclusions

Fill in the blanks of art crimes solved and unsolved with two new adult colouring books that are due to be published by Schiffer Publishing on 28 October. Looted Beauty has 30 works that were seized by the Nazis—some restituted, some presumed destroyed—including cover girl Adele Bloch-Bauer in a portrait by Klimt that was returned to her heirs in 2006. Stolen Beauty, meanwhile, features 30 works that are still missing, including works taken from Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990. The museum’s head of security and chief investigator, Anthony Amore, has written a short text to accompany each work, illustrated by the graphic novelist Karl Stevens. Lynda Albertson, the chief executive of the Association for Research into Crimes against Art, says: “It’s one thing to read about a stolen painting called The Concert [from the Gardner museum], but it’s quite another to break out your own coloured pencils and recreate the power and detail of Vermeer’s masterpiece with your own hands.”
