The UK artist Peter Blake, whose home and studio have been recreated on Waddington Custot’s stand at Frieze Masters, has bought two sculptural works by the late Romanian-born US artist Saul Steinberg from Pace Gallery at the fair. In an interview for The Art Newspaper Weekly podcast, released today, Blake says: “Pace gallery have put on a great Steinberg show and we collect Steinberg a little bit; we’ve got a couple of original Steinbergs.” The artist told Pace that “he wanted to come to [the] booth every day this week” to see the works by the cartoonist, who is best known for his illustrations for the New Yorker magazine.
