Numerous new art publications pop up every year, and some stand out more than others. Contra, a new non-profit publication launched in London by Ben Bohm-Duchen and George Brodie earlier this year, certainly has a USP, focusing on the connections between art and conflict. The first edition is entitled Displacement, drawing into sharp focus issues around migration. Illustrious contributors include the UK photographer Harley Weir, who photographed the grim reality of the Jungle refugee camp in Calais, the Colombian artist Oscar Murillo and the research agency Forensic Architecture who unpick the “politics of migration in the Mediterranean Sea”. Contra is published annually; devotees can also check out the website, contrajournal.com
