Speed star, rock star and art books publisher—go Keanu

The star of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (and all-round dreamboat) Keanu Reeves is quietly producing erudite art books under his new imprint X Artists’ Books. The website for the publisher, which Reeves co-founded with the artist Alexandra Grant, highlights the Los Angeles-based company’s recent weighty tomes. These include (Zus), a chronicle of the deprived, marginal Zones Urbaines sensibles (sensitive urban zones) on the outskirts of Paris by the French photographer Benoît Fougeirol (the limited edition has been acquired by the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France). “Not that we’re reinventing anything,” Reeves told The New York Times. “But the idea of a quality book is definitely our ambition.” Meanwhile, X Artists’ Books outlines its ethos in an endearing statement online, saying: “We love the same things about our books as we do about our friends: generosity, open-heartedness, intelligence, mystery, style. They bring sustenance and shift realities. They may occasionally break your heart.” Bless.
