The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach has announced the nominees for its biennial Rudin Prize for emerging photographers. Each artist on the shortlist was individually selected by a jury member: the London-based David Spero was chosen by Ori Gersht; the South African-born Thailand-based Kristin-Lee Moolman by Cindy Sherman; the St Louis-based Jess T. Dugan by Dawoud Bey; and the Copenhagen-based Lina Hashim by Trine Søndergaard.

“Each of this year’s nominees applies a visual language that explores place, tradition, and identity,” says Tim Wride, the Norton’s photography curator, in a statement. “The range of imagery and conceptual approaches in the nominees’ work offers a perfect way to revitalize the Rudin Prize in our newly re-configured campus.”

Works by each nominated artist will go on show in a group exhibition due to open at the recently expanded Norton Museum on 28 February 2020. The winner of the $20,000 award—to be announced the next day—will be selected by the Norton’s photography committee, and museum staff and trustees.
